Qatar is located in the Middle East and is part of the continent of Asia. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and west, and by the Persian Gulf to the east. It is one of the smallest countries in the world. Qatar is known for its oil reserves, which have made it one of the wealthiest countries in the region. It also boasts a modern infrastructure and an impressive skyline.
Qatar uses the Qatari Riyal (QAR) as its official currency. The Qatari Riyal is divided into 100 dirhams. It has been pegged to the US Dollar since 2001, and is currently trading at a rate of 3.64 QAR to 1 USD.
The Qatari Riyal is available in both coins and notes, with denominations ranging from 1 dirham to 500 riyals. The coins come in 5, 10, 25, 50 dirhams and 1 riyal denominations while the notes come in 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 riyals. Foreign currencies are also accepted in Qatar but you may experience difficulty exchanging them outside of major cities or tourist areas.
